Answers to some basic questions about our art placement and representation services.
Do you accept work from any artist, or is this a selective/juried process?
Yes. We accept portfolio submissions from any creative artist.
Are there any fees or costs for this service which come up for the artists later on?
No. The only fees we ever charge are commissions on sold pieces which we have placed.
What is your sliding scale commission base?
Our commission scale goes from 20%to 50%. It depends upon what our agreement is with the artist and what we do for them. We run the gambit from simple art placement to career promotion on a much larger scale.
That said, these numbers are somewhat adjustable even still. We work in such a way that everyone, the artist, the gallery, and theartseen, comes out of the situation feeling ok about it. If it doesnt work that way we will make changes to the arrangement, or will not enter into it. We are here to make peoples lives and the world a better place.
How much lead time do you generally give the artist when a piece of art needs to be placed?
The lead time depends upon the situation. We are constantly developing new outlets and opportunities for art placement. Usually we like to have enough leeway so that it is a comfortable process with no rushing. And there is always the option for the artist to say no...or to say I cant get it there by such and such a date and to make other arrangments with us.
In some cases we have 10 days to get 100 pieces of art in a place. In that case we put out a call to the artists whose work is appropriate for the venue and see who can do it.
On average, for how long is the artwork placed at a location?
The length of time we place work in a location varies as well. We like to have the rights to a piece of work for a period of 6 months minimum. We hope that pieces would be placed in a location and priced in such a way that they would sell within a month or two. If this doesnt happen we usually try to make some adjustment in placement, pricing or approach so that the work sells.
We, the galleries, and the artists...all make our bread and butter selling art, so this makes sense.
If you do corporate rentals, what is your commission structure?
We do not do corporate rentals at this time. We have no fee structure set up for this type of service. When we do work with corporations the work is either sold to them or available for sale in the location.
Does the artist have the right to remove artwork that's placed at any time, or is the work committed for a certain period?
Yes and no. We work on a commission base. This means that we do work without being paid anything until a piece sells. Once the artist commits a piece of work to us for sale we expect to have the opportunity to sell that piece of work.
There is a stipulation in our contract which states that an artist may pull any piece at any time but in so doing agrees to pay us the commission for the piece as if it had sold.
This is so that we do not end up doing a lot of work for nothing, and ensures that we will be here doing this good work over the long haul.
Is the artist obligated to place their art once TheArtSeen finds an opportunity for their work?
No. Each opportunity we find is optional and is not solidified until an artist decides that the situation is right for them and is indeed something they wish to take part in. |
